Projects
As a designer and Art Director I've had the priveledge to touch many different aspects of immersive and entertainment design: From theater to theme parks. Take a look at some examples below, and dive into my portfolio for more!
Fast and Furious Hollywood Drift
Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift is my most current project—a rollercoaster built on a hillside, bringing the high-speed action of the franchise to life. As Art Director and Design Lead, I’ve guided the project from schematic to in-field scenic buyoffs: managing a team of designers and contractors across drawing packages, graphics, scenic elements, and props. In addition to the queue and area development, I’ve led the retail space and fixture design, as well as the all-important restrooms. This project has taken me across the country and beyond for approvals, working closely with vendors and IP to ensure creative integrity while meeting operational needs. My first coaster project—both a challenge and a pleasure.
Super Nintendo World
Super Nintendo World was an incredibly fun and rewarding project. I started as a Production Designer in the schematic phase, later became the in-field Art Director, and saw it through to opening day. I led the retail and restaurant layout and integration, along with countless in-land details—interactive games, monitors, planters, photo ops—you name it, I probably touched it. I traveled nationwide to ensure proper vendor integration, overseeing scenic painting, TCP carving, and hardscape layouts to preserve Nintendo’s vision. A challenging project, but one that truly brings the world to life.
Secret Life of Pets: Off the Leash!
The Secret Life of Pets: Off the Leash! holds a special place in my heart as Universal Studios Hollywood’s first fully themed dark ride in years. I joined the team during schematic development, translating initial concepts into functional designs that balanced spatial constraints with Illumination’s IP. As lead for schematic adjustments and scenic integration for the ride scenes, I ensured creative intent aligned with budget and technical limitations. With 64 animated and static figures, plus media, gaming engine tech, show action equipment, and projection mapping, the project posed unique challenges that I loved being a part of solving. When we finally made it to opening day, the result was a visually stunning, engaging ride—recognized with the TEA Outstanding Achievement Award in 2022.
Kung Fu Panda Adventure
Kung Fu Panda Adventure was my first project with Universal Creative, where I served as in-field Art Director for the final 14 months. Before that, I worked as the Show Quality Designer, ensuring the design intent was preserved and materials were chosen for maintainability within the park. This project required seamless integration of projection mapping, media, and scenic elements within an existing theater space, presenting unique constraints that demanded creative solutions. As in-field Art Director, I ensured those solutions were both aesthetic and on budget.
Seaworld San Diego Special Events
At SeaWorld San Diego, I served as Senior Designer for seasonal events and theatrical shows, leading concept ideation, drawing packages, graphic design, and installation oversight for events like Christmas, Halloween, Seven Seas Food Festival, and Electric Ocean. I designed performance stages, temporary food buildings, bar spaces, and event layouts, while also creating graphic style guides and signage. Working on retail and food locations familiarized me with county health approvals, a skill that later contributed to projects like Toadstool Café at Super Nintendo World. This comprehensive role was a pivotal step in my career, laying the foundation for my work in large-scale attraction design.
Theatrical Design
I began my entertainment design career as a theatrical Set Designer, earning a BA in Acting and Set Design before working as a scenic paint charge and carpenter for various East Coast theaters, including the Children’s Theater of Charlotte, a major regional venue. There, I also worked as a carpenter, spotlight operator, and sound board operator. I went on to earn my MFA in Set Design at Boston University, designing large-scale productions in 200-1,500 seat theaters, including A Taste of Honey, Parade, and The Vibrator Play among others. My experience across regional theaters and diverse production roles ultimately fueled my transition into themed attractions, blending my love of storytelling with large-scale immersive design.
